a fifo wife {fifo life: me: B2 is five today}

My B2 is five today. Five years old where did that time go. Everyone says blink of an eye, its not even that. I hate birthdays hate them. Well hate is a strong word..I want them to be my babies forever but they cant I know I know its a catch 22.

B2 was the cutest, ugliest and smallest of my babies. Nine pound exactly and threes weeks early he has the biggest most generous soul and yes I said ugliest becasue well he was long and wrinkly like his skin didnt fit him yet.He looked like an old man and in many ways he is he is an old soul but now he is fast becoming a very spunky monkey (he takes after his mother after all). B2 he thinks before he speaks. He is thoughtful and caring. He is funny and quick witted. He is smart. He protects me like a hawk and equally watches over his brothers that way. This year has seen him grow from a little boy into the beginnings of a beautiful young man. I’m beyond proud of him. He is all and all yum.

Last week the night before picking up daddy we where discussing a problem about ice cream sundaes. Before going to the airport to collect daddy we had decided we where going to the 24 hours McDonalds in the city to have a play, ice cream and stretch our legs. We chose our flavours and headed off to bed with much, much excitement.

We all laid down in my big bed my other two soon fell asleep I lay there excited that FIFO husband would be home then out of the darkness came, mum Im worried that daddy might be upset about not having an ice cream sundae. That’s not fair that he misses out. We should wait until he gets home and then go. Well bubba I said daddy doesn’t get in until midnight and we could go then but I know that you might be very very tired and daddy also. How about we ask daddy in the morning before he gets on the chopper what he would like to do. Yes okay he said. He wasn’t really okay with that answer, we should take an esky and some ice we could buy it then he could eat it in the car. Okay bubba I said.

He is the most wonderful beautiful soul.

Happy birthday my baby,

Xx Mum.

a fifo wife {fifo life: bake it: caramel pop corn}

Its B3’s 5th birthday tomorrow so we have been cooking (when I say we I mean husband..I ahve just been laying around..literally) in prepartion for the kindy party and the little party we will have after dinner. One of our favourites is caramel popcorn so here’s the recipe its to good not to share and so easy.

What you will need:

Pop corn

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup popping corn

Caramel

  • 125g butter, chopped
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey

How to:

  1. Line a tray with baking paper. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add 2 pieces of popping corn. If corn slowly turns around in a circle then oil is hot enough.
  2. Add remaining popping corn. Cover with a tight-fitting lid. When corn starts popping, shake saucepan gently. Remove from heat when corn stops popping. Transfer to a large bowl, discarding any unpopped corn.
  3. Make caramel: Combine butter, sugar and honey in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring, for 5 to 7 minutes or until sugar has dissolved. Bring mixture to the boil. Boil, uncovered, without stirring, for 5 to 8 minutes or until light golden.
  4. Remove from heat. Pour caramel mixture over popcorn and stir until popcorn is coated. Spread over prepared tray. Set aside to cool. Break into pieces. Serve.

Yum!!

a fifo wife {fifo life: me: rest…a complete waste of time}

Sometimes the most urgent thing you can possibly do is take a complete rest. -Ashleigh Brilliant

Yesterday was a complete and utter waste of time but of the good sort. I did absolutely nothing but sleep eat and hang out with my boys and it was so good. We took a ride in the old red truck. We chatted. We watched TV. We just hung out together doing nothing at all. I needed that. We needed that. Wasting time. doing nothing but living in the moment. I have felt so distance from the boys…too busy snapping at them instead of talking.

So doing nothing all day it was exactly what this cranky self absorbed momma needed. A little reminder.

Hmmm…Its just now all that stuff I should have done yesterday I need to do today but that’s okay because I have an extra set of hands..its just letting those extra hands do it his way instead of mine that will be the hardest part…its the control freak in me.

Have a brilliant Monday my friends,

xx Deb

a fifo wife {fifo life: relationship: guess what men want you to wear to bed..seriously}

I was asked to write an article for a mens magazine so I have been reading my fair share of men’s magazines..for research..the ones with the articles. And ordinarily I don’t really care for “what men want’ polls and surveys but here’s a bit of surprising fun.

Want to know what men really want you to wear to bed? Now I was waiting for lingerie, stilettos heels and all that exhausting jazz BUT a recent poll (don’t ask me to declare my sources…its embarrassing as it is) showed it was either nothing that was no surprise or the t-shirt and knickers or just the over sized shirt particularly the men’s variety. Think Julia Roberts out of mystic pizza remember that movie or am I showing my age?

Me I have two sets of PJ’s a husband away pair and husband home pair. In winter the husband away pair is pink with poodles on them. I think I have worn the just a handful of times when he is home and each time is received with a smirk. Similar to the rolling fits of laughter I give him with his superman pj pants. The husband home pair is just minue the poodles so its not much better but I’m a comfort girl kind of girl and that’s sexy right?

Surprising? What do you think?
