a fifo wife {recipes: apple gravy}

Husband introudced me to apple gravy awhile ago and after just having a quick pork chop dinner I had to share. Have you tried it. Perhaps Im the last to know? Its basically apple added to the gravy when you have roast pork. So nice. We have had it with chicken as well and its equally nice.

Now you know the rules with my recipes this is all guess work…my measurements that is becuase I dont measure I taste.

Ingredients

  • 2  apples, cored and cut into 1cm (½in) cubes
  • finley sliced onion
  • crushed garlic one
  • Few fresh thyme sprigs, plus extra leaves to garnish
  • 30 mls plain flour
  • 100mls appl juice/puree
  • 275mls stock
  • ½tsp sugar, optional

How to:

  1. Once your roast has finished roasting put the pork belly roasting tin over a medium heat.  There shouldn’t be any burnt bits in the tin – if there are, scrape them out and discard. Add apple, garlic, onion and thyme. Fry for 1min, then stir in flour  and cook for 1min. Gradually stir in apple juice/puree, then stock.
  2. Heat, stirring constantly, until gravy thickens, then leave to bubble for a  few minutes. Discard thyme sprigs. Pour into a warmed jug and check seasoning. If it tastes a little sharp, stir in the sugar. Sprinkle in  some fresh thyme leaves and serve with the pork.

Hope that you had a great monday my friends,

xx Deb..

PS Wear sunscreen…especially you WA girls..its a killer out there.x
