I love this picture. LOVE IT. It got me thinking…dangerous I know. I have four dogs yep that’s right four dogs. If we are to be honest we, by that I mean I never intended to have children hence the large brood of canine’s. The first two a poodle and kelpie are what we affectionately call the pet shop rejects. They were the last last ones in the shop that no body wanted. The third was an abused animal left tied up at the kids daycare centre (however the idiot failed to be discreet and he was dobbed in- unfortunately the dog wasn’t the only thing he abused) and she is wonderful dog a dingo cross. The final arrival a massive staffy cross is one that wondered in and has never left and despite door knocking, advertisements and much ah what do I do, he is still here.
These dogs have been good to me and my children. They have taken care of me. They look after us at night and have forced me out of bed when some days it was just easier to pull the covers up and over my head. They look after my kids in the yard when my eyes aren’t there. They have told me when a visitor was no good, I truly believe that a dog can sense ‘good and bad’ people. They have been good to me truly.
Anyway they are ALL allowed inside and yep they ALL sleep on the bed if they so desire. Yep life is good here if you are a dog.
The ‘family’ is abhorrent that they are allowed inside and worse in the kids bed. However and here comes the well reiterated speech I give everyone who questions my decision to allow them (the dogs) in. I vacuum everyday, mop every week, they are wormed every three months (including the kids-did you know worms make kids irritable and are horribly transferable in schools and daycare centres), treated for fleas and ticks, they are cleaner than my kids most day. Honestly they are. I wash the sheets every week and every three months I hot wash (boiling hot water). I pull everything off and literally throw it in a hot wash. I hot wash the floors, carpets, curtains and couches its insane but it makes me feel better. What people think shouldn’t matter but some comments never leave your brain I suppose.
Add to that I’m not a ‘fanatical clean’ mother life is to short and heaven knows being a FIFO parent and wife there is just not enough time in the day to care. Whilst I’m not proud I will admit my kids have eaten more than there fair share of chicken poo and survived. We don’t drink filtered water and I have a ten second rule about food dropped on the ground, within reason. So having a few dogs in the bed what difference does it make? And they are part of our family. Each of them holds an important place. A house isn’t the same without a pet.
But is got me thinking dogs in or out what do you think?
Have a great Monday,
xxD.
